Sony has long been rumored to be cooking up something new, which many expected to be the Xperia Z6. However, the recently concluded IFA 2016 event in Berlin saw a different smartphone dubbed as the Xperia XZ.

According to Game N Guide, the Xperia XZ may actually be the Z6, so fans should not expect the company to announce the latter anymore.

The Xperia XZ features high-end specifications previously expected in the Xperia Z6, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and 3 GB of random access memory (RAM).

A 5.2-inch Full HD display with a 13-megapixel (MP) camera graces the front while the back features Sony's own ALKALEIDO metal with a 23MP shooter.

More about the camera, the XZ's rear snapper can take 4K videos and has laser auto-focus. It also features 5-axis image stabilization and better white balance, according to Tech Radar.

Moreover, it is IP68 certified, meaning it can withstand being submerged in water for about 30 minutes. It also has a fingerprint sensor placed at the right-hand side of the device and a USB Type-C port for connectivity and charging.

A new feature that the XZ introduces is the technology preventing the fast draining of the battery. It helps in keeping the 2,900 mAh battery working well even as the phone gets older.

This feature works by learning the charging habits of the owner. According to the Tech Radar report, this allows the battery to regulate the release of juice while charging and not in use.

For example, if the user regularly charges the phone overnight and takes it out at a certain time, the XZ will charge the battery up to 90 percent as soon as possible and the last 10 percent will be done just before taking the connection out.

The Xperia XZ will run on Android Marshmallow out of the box and is expected to arrive sometime in October.
