Things are up in the air as far as the fourth season of "Sleepy Hollow" is concerned, even as the season finale for the third season is due to air on Apr. 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox. In addition to the fourth season of the show not being locked down, news has emerged that a cast member is going to be leaving the show.

Starting with the news about the possibility of a fourth season for the show, reports state that a renewal has not been announced by Fox so far. It goes on to add that the ratings for the show have not improved sufficiently over the past few episodes and this is going to impact its renewal chances.

With no renewal news so far, many are still expecting that Fox could announce it soon, possibly around the time the last episode in the current season airs. The upcoming episode is titled "Ragnarok," and going by the ominous nature of its name, it appears that it will turn out to be pretty brutal.

This has left fans hoping that many of the plots that are currently in the show will be tied up before the season ends. One of the plots that is likely to come to an end in "Ragnarok" is the issue concerning The Hidden One. However, there are expectations that the plot surrounding Abbie Mills' (Nicole Beharie) father will continue into the fourth season, if one is announced.

Meanwhile, Zach Appelman, who plays Joe Corbin in the series, has confirmed that he won't be returning to the show and that his death in the last episode was indeed the final nail in the coffin.

"Sleepy Hollow" has seen a steady decline in ratings since the second season of the show began airing. However, during its first season, it was labeled as a major hit and it is likely that the plummeting ratings will play into whether it is renewed for a fourth season or not.

Catch the season finale of "Sleepy Hollow" season 3 on Apr. 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
