Sherlock fans are a highly devoted lot, with many spending more than a year waiting for a three-episode season. Well, the good news is that actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have already started filming for a special episode, possibly airing in Christmas, 2015. While fans many not get a full-blow season, a nail-biting special episode is just what they need to keep the suspense going on the possible events that may transpire in the future.

Colstan Hall is the new backdrop for this exciting special episode. Actress Natasha O'Keeffe, known her role in "Misfits", is joining the dynamic duo in a floral bridal headdress. Executive producer Mark Gatiss clarified it isn't a Christmas special but did concede that it is a special show for fans.

The rumor mill is replete with what the contents and revelations of the special episode may be, with reports indicating that it may answer questions about James Moriarty's escape from death, which is seen at the end of the third season. Viewers may remember that he shot himself in the face and is presumed dead before appearing on every screen with a message - "Miss me?"

According to Breathe Cast, fans can expect regulars Amanda Abbington as Mary Watson, Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper and Jonathan Aris as Anderson to make a comeback on the show for the forthcoming episode. Mysteriously, BBC uncovered the first image of the special episode depicting Cumberbatch and Freeman clad in Victorian attire.

The International Business Times states that Gatiss, when questioned about Moriarty, played spectacularly by Andrew Scoot, said, "Well, it's very hard to put a lid on Andrew Scott ..."

There is also talk about the character of Mary Watson, portrayed by Amanda Abbington, facing an untimely death since the original series by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's follows her demise. But some reports say that may not be so, because Gatiss and co-creator Steven Moffat have often altered the original storyline.

BBC will air season four of Sherlock in 2016.
