'Sherlock' season 4 spoilers, plot rumors: Sherlock will completely give up use of drugs?

(Facebook / Sherlock)Filming for season 4 of "Sherlock" is underway and will premiere early next year.

Ever since "Sherlock" season four was announced, fans all over the world have been digging around the Internet for possible storylines that may be depicted in the new episodes. One of the latest rumors surrounding the upcoming season is that of Sherlock reportedly halting his use of drugs to achieve a certain mental state.

As fans know, Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) was seen using drugs in one of the show's seasons. Though his use of drugs was somehow justified as he was able to achieve his wanted mental state, rumor has it that he won't need to take in cocaine and morphine to escape a certain situation in his life.

The Victorian age saw legal sales of opium, cocaine, morphine, and laudanum so it doesn't come as a shock that the famous detective made use of some occasionally. However, Movie News Guide notes that Sherlock may finally give up his drug use completely to handle upcoming dangers for him and his friend, Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman).

Meanwhile, Den of Geek reports that Sacha Dhawan will be joining the indomitable cast as AJ. Not much is known of the character except for his name but fans of the actor are excited to see him at play with the "Sherlock" team.

Daniel Hoffman-Gill will also make an appearance, though it has yet to be revealed what role he will portray.

Finally, there's Toby Jones, who has been cast to play Culverton Smith, one of craftiest villains ever created by the great Sir Conan Doyle. In the stories, Smith and Sherlock have drawn bad blood after the latter suspected Smith of killing his nephew.

Smith is knowledgeable in the art of rare diseases so he tried to infect Sherlock with a tropical disease. As expected of the brilliant detective, he was able to escape infection and set a trap for Smith.

At the moment, there is no exact release date for "Sherlock" season four but many believe the episodes will start airing on January 2017.
