Production for "Sense8" season 2 is already in full swing, with the cast and crew busy travelling to various locations to shoot Netflix's popular sci-fi drama. But what can fans expect when the sensates return?

The first season of "Sense8" saw the eight sensates struggling to understand their connection with each other. Over the course of the season, these eight strangers were able to share their knowledge and skills with each other in various situations and develop a strong bond in their cluster. The season's final episode brought the cluster physically together for the first time as they tried to save Riley (Tuppence Middleton) from the nefarious Whispers (Terrence Mann).

The second season is expected to delve deeper into the sensates' backstories and their lives. Big changes are also in store for the characters as new clusters and enemies are set to be introduced.

Reports tease that Bollywood actor Sikander Kher has been tapped to play a villain that would match or even exceed Whispers in his ruthlessness. While the actor has not given any details, he did admit in a statement that he was "approached for the show a few months back."

"It's a small but an important role, and it takes the story ahead," Kher said. He also expressed his hope that fans would appreciate the second season in the same way that they did the first.

Based on Kher's description, it's unlikely that he would be playing one of the season's big bads if it's just a small part. However, it's also possible that the "24" alum would be playing a sensate from another cluster; perhaps, one who would guide the others the way that Jonas (Naveen Andrews) did.

The cast had previously given Buzzfeed some hints on where the new season will find their characters. Will (Brian J. Smith), for instance, might have to stay in a highly medicated state to prevent Whispers from hunting him and his cluster, which will prompt Riley to step up and take care of him.

There's also the simmering tension between Kala (Tina Desai) and Wolfgang (Max Riemelt) as the pharmacist's arranged marriage looms nearer. Lito's "life is a roller coaster in season 2," according to Miguel Angel Silvestre, as the character deals with the possibility that his career will take a hit after coming out of the closet.

There's no word yet on when "Sense8" season 2 will return to Netflix, but fans are expecting it to be ready for streaming by early 2017.
