Scion CH-R Concept news: polarizing design for new SUV is inspired by 'yuccies'

(Scion)

The bold Scion CH-R Concept vehicle made its world debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. It was designed with function and style in mind. It is an urban lifestyle vehicle that strives to stand out from the crowd.

"Scion is known for doing things differently, and maybe even being a little weird. This C-HR concept embraces that idea and wears it like a badge of honor. We couldn't be more excited to add the production version to our line-up," said Andrew Gilleland, vice president for Scion, in a press release.

According to Scion, C-HR stands for Compact size and High Ride height. The bold and edgy concept vehicle was designed specifically for "yuccies" or young urban creative. Based on their research and consultations, "yuccies" or millenials desired for something distinct, sophisticated and clean. The younger generation would rather opt for something polarizing rather than settle for something boring and uninspiring. Thus, the CH-R was born.

The Scion CH-R Concept comes with a sleek and stylish design that was inspired by a precision-cut diamond. Even with its chiseled body, it still looks very elegant. The crossover comes with graphite black accents on the grille, bumpers, fenders and lower side panels. It also features a piano-black roof. The massive 21-inch wheels stand out due to its chiseled cut-outs and spokes.

Scion's upcoming SUV will be built using Toyota's New Global Architecture. The TNGA platform will give the CH-R a lower center of gravity, increased body rigidity, more responsive car handling and improved ride comfort.

According to Gilleland, the Scion CH-R will come with impressive driving dynamics and premium features at an accommodating price.

The Scion CH-R is expected to reveal its production-ready version during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March. More specific details including technical specifications will be announced closer to its official launch date. The Scion CH-R will compete with the Mazda CX-3, the Nissan Juke and the Honda HR-V.
