'Scandal' season 6 air date, spoilers: Olivia prepares grand scheme to defeat Cyrus
Olivia (Kerry Washington) will not let Mellie (Bellamy Young) become a big joke in the presidential elections in the upcoming season of "Scandal."
The new installment of the hit ABC series will kick-start at the night of the elections, where the public will choose their next leaders. Executive producer Shonda Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly that the time has come for the Americans to vote for either Mellie of the Republicans or Frankie (Ricardo Chavira) of the Democrats. In the vice presidential slot, Jake (Scott Foley) will go against Cyrus (Jeff Perry). Fans cannot wait for the moment Mellie will learn about Cyrus' candidacy. Young previously revealed that her character would flip out once she discovers the truth.
"I think that sends a chill through every spine in D.C. when that gets announced because Cyrus is such a monster and has the dirt on everyone and everyone knows that he's capable of anything. I think that is a deep, deep terror for everyone. Mellie doesn't know when we leave the finale, but it will shatter her. She's a little hubris about beating Vargas, but paired with Cyrus, all bets are off. It will really be bloodbath if we come back to an election in Season 6," Young said, according to Variety.
Although Cyrus has the upper hand, Olivia will make sure that her candidate will not come out the loser in front of the American people. The fixer must be hatching a plan to defeat Cyrus in his own game. It will not be an easy job, since Cyrus knows a lot about Mellie's past. He was not Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) Chief of Staff for nothing. Mellie knows that Cyrus has her by the throat. Will Olivia be able to come up with something to salvage Mellie's candidacy?
"Scandal" season 6 is expected to premiere midseason 2017 on ABC.
