'Scandal' season 6 premiere spoilers: Cyrus shows Mellie who's boss
Cyrus (Jeff Perry) is gearing up for the kill in the upcoming season of "Scandal." Will he be able to defeat Jake (Scott Foley) and secure the vice presidential position in the elections?
The moment of truth on who will be the next leaders of the United States government will soon be revealed in the new installment of the ABC series. Executive producer Shonda Rhimes recently told Entertainment Weekly that when the show returns next year, the premiere episode would dwell on the night of the presidential elections. According to her, they do not see the need to dilly-dally about the whole election process. The million-dollar question on who between the Republicans' Mellie (Bellamy Young) and the Democrats' Frankie (Ricardo Chavira) will win will soon be revealed, as well as the winner of the VP position.
With Olivia (Kerry Washington) at her side, Mellie is full of confidence that she will defeat her opponent. However, season 6 is arranging a huge surprise for her. She still does not know that the other side has Cyrus.
Young previously revealed to Variety that her character would probably freak out once she discovers the truth. Cyrus knows far too much about her and her escapades. He may be the deciding factor in Mellie's win. Even Olivia will not be able to help her out on this one.
Frankie's nomination was all Cyrus' work. He single-handedly made Frankie a viable candidate with his ingenious trick. The Americans empathized with Frankie when he was shot, not knowing that it was all a set-up.
Foley also shared in the interview that Cyrus would be too hard to beat. As Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) former Chief of Staff, he has a lot of connections and knows how to use them. He also knows Frankie is a good choice. Is it time for Cyrus to win it all?
"Cyrus is so good at getting people on his team and he knows exactly how to play his game. ... Cyrus is on an island by himself at this point. But I think that he really believes in this candidate — he really believes that Frankie Vargas is the best choice and the real deal. It's going to be interesting to see if what Cyrus did to get Frankie to this point [this shooting at the capital] comes out," Foley said, according to Variety.
"Scandal" season 6 is expected to premiere midseason 2017 on ABC.
