Samsung Galaxy S7 news: Release is tipped to happen on February 21, 2016
So far, rumors have indicated that Samsung is going to launch its next flagship smartphone in January of next year to counteract the popularity of the iPhone lineup. The latest rumor about the Galaxy S7, however, has pointed towards the Korean manufacturer releasing the Galaxy S7 in February.
The latest rumor about the Galaxy S7 arrived via the Twitter account belonging to a tipster and they made it clear that Samsung would announce the flagship smartphone a day before Mobile World Congress next year. The tipster importantly referred to an image associated with the event which is traditionally named "Galaxy Unpacked" and it showed that it would take place in Barcelona in 2016.
If the image pertaining to the Galaxy Unpacked event is true, it would mean that all the previous rumors about the Galaxy S7 arriving much earlier in January of 2016 are wrong. It would also mean that Samsung has decided to stick with its traditional launch formula of announcing the device before MWC, something which it also did this year with the Galaxy S6. If the company decides to launch the Galaxy S7 one day before MWC, that means the device will arrive on February 21st, 2016 as the conference is scheduled to start the next day.
However, since this is just a rumor and no official invitation has been sent to the press SamMobile states that the launch date could be pushed forward. Elsewhere firmware for the upcoming Galaxy S7 has leaked and GSMArena states that it points towards Samsung creating two versions of the device. This would be in line with what the company did this year and one would have standard bezels while another would have curved edges on its screen. What was important about the firmware leak is that the code associated was pushed into development about a month earlier compared to what happened with the Galaxy S6. This could indicate that the next flagship device would be released a month earlier in January.
Given these conflicting rumors, it is safe to say that right now the release date of the Galaxy S7 is still being planned and nothing has been set in stone.
