Samsung Galaxy S8 release date, specs: New flagship to launch with 4K resolution in 2017
Samsung is rumored to release a new device in the Galaxy S series next year. Reports about the Galaxy S8's impressive specs and features are starting to make rounds even with Samsung's recent launch of the Note 7.
Although there isn't any update from the South Korean technology giant regarding the Galaxy S8, there are now speculations that the next flagship smartphone will come out in March 2017. This theory is based on the release date of previous models in the S series, which came out during the annual Mobile World Congress.
As for the specs, Korea Herald, citing market research firm UBI Research, reported back in June that the Galaxy S8 will most likely sport a 5.5-inch 4K display. This feature is essential for Virtual Reality apps as the technology is starting to gain popularity among new-generation technology users. To support this feature, it is rumored that the Galaxy S8 may run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 chipset, which has yet to be announced.
Galaxy S8 is also expected to have improved security features. FabNews reported that the smartphone may have an efficient eye scanner. It is likely that Samsung has been working on this feature so it will respond more quickly when processing retina information.
Other rumored specs and features include a 6 GB of RAM, storage options of 64 GB and 128 GB, a microSD card slot to expand memory and a 6200 mAh battery. There are also rumors about the device having a USB Type-C port, is waterproof and has a pre-installed Android Nougat operating system.
Given the rumored specs and features, the Galaxy S8 could be one of the best releases for next year. However, it should be noted that the South Korean technology company hasn't confirmed any of these reports so it's best to take them with a pinch of salt.
