Samsung Galaxy S8 release date early 2017 with iris scanner, dual-lens camera: what to expect
The industry of technology is a fast-paced one. Samsung is getting increasingly popular with each passing year, especially with its S series offerings. And right now, speculations are rife that the device will land sometime in early 2017. New year, new smartphone.
It was previously reported that virtual reality (VR) is a feature that is highly expected on the upcoming Galaxy S8. VR is the next big thing and, with many companies poised to adopt the format in many devices, it wouldn't be a surprise if Samsung followed suit. The Galaxy S8 is rumored to be VR-ready out of the box.
Another headline-grabbing feature on the Galaxy S8, however, is the presence of a dual-lens camera at the back. A 12-megapixel and a 13-megapixel snapper will both be the smartphone's rear cameras, allowing for photos and videos with better resolutions. The front-facing camera, on the other hand, is expected to be at around 5–8 megapixels.
As for security, Samsung will take things up a notch with an alleged iris scanner. Currently, the lineup utilizes finerprint scanning technology to unlock the devices. But an iris scanner, reportedly situated inside the front and back cameras, could change the game entirely.
Apart from these new exciting features, the Galaxy S8 series is expected to have a 4K UHD display with a resolution measuring 3,840 x 2,160. Under the hood will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 or 820 chipset, 4–6 GB of RAM and a 3,600 mAh battery to power the smartphone. The Galaxy S8 Edge will reportedly clock at 5.5 inches, while its standard counterpart's measurements are still unknown. It has been said that the Galaxy S8 will run on the recently released Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out of the box.
Since everything is still up in the air at the moment, tech enthusiasts should take this news with a grain of salt.
