Samsung Galaxy S8 release date news: VR-ready smartphone to launch in February 2017?
The Samsung Galaxy S7 has only been in the market for less than a year and heads are already turning toward the next generation in the S series. Rumor has it that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in February 2017.
The current generation of Samsung's Galaxy S lineup was the recipient of many good reviews. This is probably why a lot of people are already excited about what the South Korean company will release next. And according to reports, the smartphone will be introduced early next year.
As usual, it is expected that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will come in two variants: the standard Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Edge. The latter is said to measure 5.5 inches, but it is unknown whether the standard edition will be the same size or if it will be smaller. Both, however, are expected to sport a 3,840 x 2,160 resolution of 4K UHD display, according to GSMArena.
It is also rumored that both the Galaxy S8 and the S8 Edge will come with the latest processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 830. Apart from that, the devices will reportedly feature 6 GB of RAM and an internal memory of either 32 GB or 64 GB.
But perhaps the most exciting feature that is rumored to come with the next smartphones in the Galaxy S lineup is virtual reality. VR is rapidly becoming a staple in the entertainment and tech industry, with numerous brands churning out versions of their own. The market is definitely becoming a competitive one.
Although Samsung has already released the Samsung Gear VR, which works well with the Samsung Galaxy S7 models, the idea of a VR-ready smartphone is certainly a big one. Of course, as GSMArena noted, this would require a massive GPU and it is unlikely that one shall be produced to fit the size of the smartphone. However, this has not stopped rumors from circulating that the Samsung Galaxy S8 series may be equipped with VR technology.
Right now, these are all mere rumors, so tech enthusiasts should take this news with a grain of salt.
