In 2013, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix released a reboot of the "Tomb Raider" video game franchise. The game was met with critical success due to the visuals, length and depth of its gameplay.

The reboot focused on the origin story of Lara Croft; how she became a hardened adventurer after being shipwrecked on an island.

Now in 2015, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix are set to release "Rise of the Tomb Raider," a continuation of Lara Croft's adventures.

When the upcoming game was first announced, head of Crystal Dynamics, Darell Gallagher revealed, "Tomb Raider in 2013 was a success due to in large part to your continued support. Our goal has always been to deliver something truly special with Rise of the Tomb Raider."

In the game, Lara Croft travels to Syria to follow a thread that she believes will lead her to an immortal Prophet's Tomb. With a ruthless shadow organization following her, she must evade deadly traps and use her skills to survive.

According to the game's director, Brian Horton, The developers "wanted to build on the foundation that we had for 'Tomb Raider 2013.'"

The game will feature a "guerilla-combat" style that includes climbing trees, swimming underwater to evade detection, and performing silent kills, according to Horton. Increased mobility allows Lara Croft to gain an upper hand in combat.

"Rise of the Tomb Raider" also offers a more personal gameplay due to many options presented to players.

Players this time around will be able to collect more objects from the environment.

These objects can be crafted into tools or makeshift weapons to help Lara Croft overcome difficult situations. Cloth and wood can be used to craft bows. Mushrooms can also be used to create poisonous arrows. Bottles and cans can also be used to create bombs.

An expanded skill tree allows players to customize Lara Croft's traits and skills based on players' own preferences for combat.

Players will also make their own decisions on how to go about any given situation. Players can decide to go stealth or launch surprise attacks depending on their own play style.

Game creators also made technical improvements to ensure a smooth gameplay.

The game's artificial intelligence was made to be more responsive and reactive to the world. The game is also able to create scenarios for the players to react to.

The developers made sure to give players a seamless experience by removing the loading screens. "We want to immerse the player into the world as soon as possible and flow form mission to mission in a very seamless way," Horton said.

"Rise of the Tomb Raider" will be released on Nov. 10, 2015 exclusively for the Xbox One and Xbox 360. The game will be released for PC by early 2016 and late 2016 for the PS4 console.
