It came as no surprise that the animated series "Rick and Morty" will be picked up by Adult Swim for a third season. But what was surprising is the number of episodes that fans will be getting and the plans the show's creators have for the upcoming season.

The Adult Swim TV series is the creation of Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon and follows the adventures of Rick and Morty through the cosmos and multiple alternate universes. Rick is an eccentric, alcoholic scientist and the grandfather of 14-year-old Morty.

"Rick and Morty" quickly established a strong following of people who enjoyed the show's simple animation and hilarious take on dysfunctional grandparenting. This popularity led to Adult Swim picking up a third season almost immediately after the sophomore season aired. And this time around, fans of the series will be getting 19 episodes!

According to "Den of Geek," Roiland was blown away by the show's success, a sentiment that "Rick and Morty" co-creator Harmon echoed.

"It's an honor to see Rick and Morty join the exclusive club of shows over nineteen episodes," Harmon said, before teasing that they will be demanding that they be allowed to draw the characters as going to Hawaii.

Aside from the alleged Hawaii, it's been reported that Harmon and Roiland are planning on taking out the time travel storyline next season as it's quite a complicated plot to pull off.

The show's season two finale, "The Wedding Squanchers," didn't end so well as Rick decided to turn himself over to the authorities following a disastrous wedding. Fans have been wondering since then what will happen to Rick now that the Galactic Federation has him and how the creators will move it forward in the upcoming season.

"Rick and Morty" season three will allegedly return to TV screens in 2017, but some fans are hoping that the series will arrive much sooner.
