'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date news: Nintendo Switch support depends on console's sales
So far, two things have been confirmed for "Red Dead Redemption 2." First of all, it is already under works and is scheduled for a release in fall 2017. Second, the game will be available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, fans are wondering if there will be a version for PC and Nintendo Switch.
Fans were sent into a frenzy when Rockstar Games officially announced that "Red Dead Redemption 2" would be arriving in stores next year. The first game was released over six years ago, and the call for a sequel were left unanswered up until recently. Considering the first game's critical and commercial success, it does not come as a surprise that Rockstar would develop a sequel.
The studio also confirmed that the upcoming title will be playable on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One once it releases. However, they did not say anything about other possible support.
With Nintendo scheduled to drop their latest console in March, will "Red Dead Redemption 2" be available on Nintendo Switch? According to the president of Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, it depends.
"With any new hardware, there is always an element of 'wait and see,' and the install base is going to drive a lot [of Take-Two's level of support]. We're very intrigued and excited about it," Take-Two president Karl Slatoff said at the Credit Suisse Technology, Media, and Telecom conference, reports GameSpot. "The Nintendo folks I think are making a great effort to reach out to third-party developers, which I think is fantastic," he added.
"I would say we're very optimistic and they're good partners. We're excited to work with them in the future on it," he continued.
As for a PC version, fans took it upon themselves to make sure their pleas would be heard by starting a petition for it online. The first game was not released on PC, but those who subscribe to PlayStation Now can now have a shot at it.
"Red Dead Redemption 2" does not have a specific release date as of yet.
