PS4's 2.57 system software update is available now but Sony says it's optional
Buying a video game console these days require some sort of maintenance as they do not usually come out fully complete — with manufacturers rolling out system updates from time to time. And recently, owners of the Sony PlayStation 4 have a new update to download, but the 2.57 update is completely optional, said Sony.
Earlier this week, Sony announced via their Twitter that the PS4 is getting the 2.57 software update, just a few weeks after the previous 2.55 update. The announcement said that the latest update will be a minor one aimed at improving the stability of some of the console's features.
A day after the announcement was made, the 2.57 PS4 software update went live on the PlayStation website. The official changelog read, "System software stability during use of some features has been improved."
Those who skipped the previous two updates and opt to download the 2.57 will also get the changes brought by the 2.55 and 2.51 software updates. The previously rumored calendar app is not yet included in this new update and users looking forward to it will have to wait a little bit longer for the feature to be available.
The latest version of the system software update, being a minor one, is optional, as mentioned by PlayStation Europe Community Manager, Chris Owen, via Twitter. But as always, Sony suggested that users do proceed with the download.
The website bears its usual reminder, "Always update your PS4™ system to the latest version of the system software. By updating, you can enjoy additional features, improved usability, and enhanced security."
PS4 owners can download the update by going to Settings > System Software Update, where any available update will be automatically downloaded. After the download, install via Notifications > Downloads. Those who need to download via a computer can do so by saving the download on a USB stick from the U.S. and UK PlayStation sites.
