Michael Scofield is alive and season 5 will tell the story behind his deliberately faked death.

When "Prison Break" was first announced to work on a sequel after its last episode aired in 2009, fans wondered what the story was going to be, given the preconceived death of one of its main stars, Michael.

Chairman Dana Walden of Fox was documented by TV Line to have said, "I would describe it as a bit of sequel. It picks up with the characters several years after we left them in the last season of the show. The brothers will be back. Some of the iconic characters from the show will be back," when asked about the fifth season at the Television Critics Association press tour.

She said executive producer Paul Scheuring already has all 10 episodes thought out. In doing so, both old and new viewers will be able to grasp what the series has been all about.

In another statement, Fox CEO Gary Newman said "Paul made sure that Michael did not die. The character is very much alive," as published by Movie News Guide. He also shared that Michael's brain tumor, which was rumoured to have caused his death wasn't on the script that he read.

According to reports, Michael underwent another surgery four years after the first one was done. He then sought the help of secret service agent Paul Kellerman and the government to make people believe that it was indeed his body in the grave.

The series has been scheduled for release this year when the revival was first made known. However, most of the cast members are still working on their prior commitments. No update on the new premiere date has been announced, yet shooting is said to take place when the first season of "DCs Legends of Tomorrow" ends.

The two main protagonists of "Prison Break" are played by actors Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller who are both cast members on "Legends."
