It has been almost exactly 12 months since a cardinal by the name of Jorge Mario Bergoglio has sat at the highest seat in the Catholic Church as Pope Francis I.

And he decided to mark the event in a low key way for a religious order.

Instead of holding a big mass or religious celebration that might be expected of a man in his position, the Pope simply made a post on Twitter to mark the anniversary of his tenure.

The act is, perhaps, in line with his continuing expression of his own humility and simplicity which still attracts media attention and draws followers despite his rejection that  he is a Superman.

The message was simply "Pray for me."

The Pope posted it on his English account @pontifex. In Latin, the traditional language by the Catholic Church, that would be "Orate pro me."

In addition to Latin and English, the Pope also tweets in a total of nine languages, which  includes Arabic. He also has more than 12 million in followers on Twitter.

Responses and tributes were of course made, but Francis would have most probably not heard of them as he made the post in the middle of his religious retreat.

Pope Francis is spending the week with several of his top aides in the a humble building of a religious institution in the town of Ariccia, by the Alban Hills located 15 miles (24 kilometers) away from the Vatican.

"Today the Pope is not doing anything special or different from other days. He is praying," said Rev. Federico Lombardi, the  Vatican spokesman.

Some of his faithul have said that Pope Francis is not only a man of humility, he is also one of unconventional tastes.
