'Pokémon Go' news 2016: Devs partner with Starbucks for more Pokestops and Gyms

Niantic Labs provides more Pokestops and Gyms for "Pokémon Go" trainers due to their partnership with Starbucks.

Pokestops are one of the most significant elements of "Pokémon Go." These are specific places where trainers can get special game items such as eggs and Poke Balls that are essential for Pokémon hunting and training.

On the other hand, Gyms are another set of specific locations represented by towers on "Pokémon Go's" augmented reality map. These are defended by the team who owns them. A trainer from another team can challenge the Gym's defense and subsequently acquire the location through winning Pokémon battles.

Since last Thursday, up to 7,800 company-operated Starbucks stores across the United States were transformed into Pokestops and Gyms where trainers can continue to level up their game while getting their favorite cup of coffee blend.

"Starbucks has a long-standing commitment to providing spaces for social interaction and real-world community building in its extensive network of locations. We appreciate their role in creating safe, welcoming locations for people from all walks of life to come together for refreshment and social engagement," said Niantic Labs. To further seal the partnership, Starbucks had also launched a special edition "Pokémon Go"-themed frappuccino.

Also just recently, Niantic Labs partnered with Sprint to provide more Pokestops locations for "Pokémon Go" players in the U.S. Much like the collaboration with Starbucks, up to 10,500 Sprint centers across the country has become places to level up trainers' "Pokémon Go" status.

"As part of this collaboration, Sprint, Boost Mobile and Sprint at Radioshack stores will become PokéStops and Gyms," Niantic Labs explained.

On other news, Niantic Labs announced last Friday that they are expanding the number of regions to experience the Nearby Pokémon feature. In a statement, the developer said, "Trainers in most regions of the world, who can access Pokémon GO from the App Store or Google Play, can now test this new feature."
