After the success of 2012's "Pitch Perfect" and 2015's "Pitch Perfect 2," the decision to extend the series was a no-brainer for Universal Pictures. The musical threequel, "Pitch Perfect 3" is set to make its way into theaters in 2017.

The movie is still in the early stages of development, but has already landed its leadings stars. Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Hailee Steinfeld have all confirmed that they will be back for the third installment in the musical franchise.

Kay Cannon, screenwriter for the past two films, is also set to return as screenwriter for "Pitch Perfect 3." "Pitch Perfect 2" director and co-star, Elizabeth Banks, has yet to announce whether she will again take the helm as director of the upcoming film.

Kendrick made a guest appearance on "Good Morning America" last week. Speaking with anchor, Robin Roberts, who made a cameo appearance in the film, Kendrick shared that she was excited about doing the third film. She also revealed that the "Pitch Perfect" team is excited to "do something a little bit different" in terms of the movie's structure.

Kendrick also announced that they are hosting a Dubsmash competition for fans. The winner of the competition will win a walk-in role in the upcoming movie.

Dubsmash has a special "Pitch Smash" section where fans can choose any "Pitch Perfect" spoken line or song to lip sync to. Interested contestants have to post their 10-second video to their Vine, Instagram or Twitter account. They must also tag their submissions with the #PitchSmash hashtag.

Fans who are interested in joining only have until Sept. 17 to submit their entries. The winner will be announced on Sept. 22 on "Good Morning America."

Sept. 22 also marks the DVD release of "Pitch Perfect 2." Ten runners-up of the Dubsmash competition will win Blu-Ray discs of the first two movies.

"Pitch Perfect 3" is scheduled to be released to theaters on July 21, 2017.
