Orlando Magic trade rumors 2016: Potential Nikola Vučević demotion a step closer to a deal?
Center Nikola Vučević's chances of being traded may have improved with Orlando Magic head coach Frank Vogel admitting he is considering changes to the current lineup, perhaps with his starting five.
In a report by the Orlando Sentinel, Vogel said he is thinking about making adjustments. There were no details revealed but it was suggested that one of them is at the no. 5 position. This might be Vučević dropping the starting role and heading to the bench, giving way for Bismack Biyombo to open games.
Even before the 2016-17 NBA season began, there were issues seen when the Magic signed Biyombo even if they already had Vučević. Some believed that the latter is on his way out of Orlando due to the former's addition.
However, during that time, Vučević was confident he will hold on to the starting job. As the new campaign opened, indeed the 26-year-old is still the starting center of the Magic but that might not be the case for long. If the speculation is right, Biyombo is likely taking over.
This is a bad sign for Vučević and it is almost sure to drag him further into the rumor mill.
Biyombo showed last season with the Toronto Raptors that he is capable of being an efficient starter. The 24-year-old will not light up the scoreboard but his rebounding and blocking abilities are what will make him a force in the paint. Once he proves these in Orlando and remains consistent, the Magic may be convinced they no longer need Vučević and part ways with him.
Vučević is a reliable scorer and a decent defender, which will make it easier for the Magic to quickly find trade partners when he is placed on the market. What they may want in exchange for him is a scorer, someone who betters their offense.
