OnePlus 4 news: Specs revealed; May/June 2017 release expected

(Reuters/OnePlus/Handout)OnePlus will enter the market again to compete with more established brands.

OnePlus 4 will enter the market to bring the similar disruptive entry effect of OnePlus 3 in 2016.

The flagship from OnePlus will come with features that will make it compete with the Samsung Galaxy S8. It will be equipped with a 16-megapixel "selfie" camera together with a 23-megapixel front camera. Bolstered by a 4,000 mAh battery, the firm will be aiming to target the younger market that are always on-the-go and are into sharing their lives through photos and videos.

The gadget will reportedly feature the recently-released Qualcomm SnapDragon 835. However, the exclusivity of the central processing unit's (CPU) right to be used might be taken into consideration as Samsung is helping Qualcomm manufacture the product.

In addition to using the latest processor, OnePlus 4 will also be equipped with a 6 GB random-access memory (RAM) and 64 GB internal memory.

The device will run on Android 7.0 Nougat and will be protected by an aluminum and glass body. It will have a Universal Serial Bus (USB) Type-C for compatibility and connectivity with other devices.

OnePlus 4 will also be equipped with an active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display. Together with its 5.5-inch dimension, users must expect the unit to support virtual reality (VR), especially when it upgrades its display to Quad-HD. It can be noted that the company is seen to be venturing into the VR market, as exemplified by its OnePlus 3 VR launch.

With the increasing improvements in smartphones being launched recently, reports are claiming that the device will have curved screen and waterproofing technologies. This is in line with the strategies employed by the company for its earlier devices in disrupting the market.

The product will be launched in May or June this year. Albeit losing to Samsung over the immediate rights to use of the newest processor, the brand will provide a substantive competition over Samsung's new unit Galaxy S8 by offering similarly powerful yet more affordable units in the market.
