"Once Upon a Time" will introduce fans to Hades when the series returns to continue its fifth season and actor Greg Germann, who has been tapped to play the deity, is said to be having fun with the character.

Hades is one of Disney's more popular villain, which is not surprising given the campy and humorous twist that James Woods had given it. Now it's the "Ally McBeal" alum's turn to add his own take on the character.

The show also added its own unique touches to Hades. Instead of the usual toga, this Hades is rocking a suit, but the grey palette and the dark sense of humour are reportedly still present. Another detail that fans will find familiar is the God of the Underworld's flaming blue hair. Entertainment Weekly recently gave fans a glimpse of Germann with Hades' signature hairstyle.

The 57-year-old actor also talked to the site about his experience playing the character and described it as "a fun, endlessly creative challenge."

"The creators bring him to life on the page with the same out-of-the-box unpredictability that they bring to the rest of the show," Germann said. "They strike the perfect balance between keeping things grounded and letting things fly - sometimes literally."

While Hades might be a fun - and funny – character to play, series' co-creator Edward Kitsis also described him as someone very dangerous, which doesn't bode well for Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and the other residents of Storybrooke.

Fans will recall that during the mid-season finale of "Once Upon a Time" season 5, Emma, Gold (Robert Carlyle) and the others have set off for the Underworld to bring back Hook (Colin O'Donoghue).

However, Kitsis teased that it's possible that not all of them will be able to make it out. The showrunner also shared that the characters will come face to face with their past once they reach Hades' domain.

A trailer for the upcoming midseason premiere, which is also the 100th episode of "Once Upon a Time," shows Emma and the others arriving in the Underworld, which looks eerily like Storybrooke, only dilapidated and crumbling. The clip also gave glimpses of fan favourites who are reportedly making an appearance in the upcoming milestone episode.

"Once Upon a Time" season 5 is set to return to ABC on March 6.
