The top two teams in the West Region, Oregon (1) and Oklahoma (2), succeeded in their earlier assignments and are now set to play against each other in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) March Madness Elite Eight.
Oregon is heading to its first Elite Eight since 2007 with great momentum after eliminating last tournament's champion, Duke, in the Sweet 16, 82-68. Before getting rid of the Blue Devils, the Ducks blew out Holy Cross in the first round 91-52 and were challenged by Saint Joseph's in the second round before walking away with a 69-64 win.
In Oregon's huge victory over the Blue Devils, sophomore forward Dillon Brooks shined as he tallied 22 points, five rebounds, and six assists.
Helping Brooks was senior forward Elgin Cook who came close to a double-double having 16 points, nine rebounds, one assist, and one block.
The Ducks did not use much of their reserves during the game but one of them stood out as freshman forward Jordan Bell provided an all-around performance with 13 points, seven rebounds, one assist, two steals, and three blocks.
Oklahoma also had an impressive road towards the Elite Eight after beating CSU Bakersfield 82-68 in the first round, facing its stiffest test in VCU in the second round, 85-81, and capturing a convincing 77-63 victory over Texas A&M in the Sweet 16.
Leading the way for the Sooners versus Texas A&M was junior guard Jordan Woodard who recorded 22 points, three rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Oklahoma got a double-double performance from senior guard Buddy Hield who had 17 points and 10 rebounds, that came along with three assists.
The Sooners are back in the Elite Eight for the first time since 2009 and are seeking to return to the Final Four after last playing in the round in 2002.
