Nokia Lumia Icon owners on Verizon Wireless gets firmware update

Starting Friday, May 9, Verizon subscribers who use Lumia Icon received a firmware update on their handsets. Lumia Icon users have experienced some issues with Windows Phone 8.1 which appeared to be caused by an update of version 8.0.

The Verizon-published PDF has the details of the update, the major enhancement of which is the Wi-Fi connectivity improvement that is made consistent, even when traveling internationally.

There are changes made in Nokia Music, such as changing Nokia Music to Nokia MixRadio, refurbishing the app for easier use, and improving the offline downloading of mixes. The Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down help refine the user's music profile and a personalized mix PlayMe distinguishes the user's distinct music characteristic. Sharing of mixes on Twitter, Facebook, SMS and email, is also made possible.

The Nokia Camera app is pre-loaded, with an integration of Nokia Smart Capture Mode and Nokia Pro Camera. Some of this app's features are not just to capture photos but to also SmartBurst videos and sequences and optimize Auto-Mode for quick point-and-shoot. A mode for Direct Access to Night/Sport will be present as well as a tidier dashboard that offers more controls and enables manual setting. The Reframing/Edit feature saves the original files so the user can make editions as much as he likes.

Updates are also applied to Beamer, Settings, Cinemagraph, Storyteller, App Social, HERE maps and HERE drive.

A reader from Windows Phone Central cited two noticeable changes after getting the update – the boot splash of Verizon changed from orange to white and the Wi-Fi sign in the status bar got a little arrow.
