'No Man's Sky' release date: 18 quintillion planets to be discovered in open universe game; tipped for launch in Q3 2015
Indie video game developer, Hello Games stole the show at last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) by unveiling its newest title "No Man's Sky." The title won the show's "Best Original Game" and "Best Independent Game", as well as received the "Special Commendation for Innovation." Based in Guildford, England, Hello Games is known for its critically acclaimed "Joe Danger" series. This year, with just a handful of developers, the company is set to release the largest open-universe game ever seen.
"No Man's Sky" is a game about exploration and survival in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, according to Hello Games' official description. Australia's Play Magazine has given some great insights into how infinite the game's galaxy truly is. The magazine's article has listed the number of planets in huge universe of "No Man Sky" to be 18,446,744,073,709,551,616. Every person on Earth will have to discover 73 planets per minute for life in order to discover all those planets. The magazine also expects the game to be released in the third quarter of 2015.
According to an article by VCPost, Sony PlayStation managing director Fergal Gara has confirmed that "No Man's Sky" will receive Sony's full support for the game's PlayStation integration during the development stages. "We have been working very closely with the No Man's Sky's developers and bringing it into our release program as if we had made it," Gara said. "We are not going to treat it any differently and we are going to put the full weight of PlayStation behind it. If it all comes together as well as expected, it will be treated like a first-party release. It is not a self-published small indie title on the platform."
Many video game fans have already listed "No Man's Sky" as one of their must-have titles for the year. However, there has been no official announcement from Hello Games or Sony regarding the game's release date. Fans are expecting Sony to provide updates about the game's status during the company's E3 press conference on June 15.
