Rumors have it that Google is already working on its next Nexus tablet, assumed by the tech world to be the Nexus 8, to succeed its current tablet flagship Nexus 7 2.0. On July 2013, Google released the Nexus 7 2.0 tablet, a product of its collaboration with Asus, which received positive reviews as the thinner and more powerful enhancement of Nexus 7. As it has been almost a year since the launch of the Nexus 7, the timing for the next Google tablet is right and it is believed that Google plans to make the next tablet larger, measuring between 8 or 9 inches, to fare with the likes of the iPad Mini and LG G Pad. OEMs to help Google build its next tablet were rumored to be Asus, which built the two editions of Nexus 7; LG, which also built two Google-owned Nexus smartphones and HTC. Recently, HTC will likely be the candidate as there were reports in April of Asus passing the opportunity to the Taiwanese phone maker.

Google is said to be content with how its Nexus tablets build a strong user base for Android. The Nexus 8 may come with a $300 price tag.

Release date and processor

Rumors hinted that the next Nexus tablet will be released with the new version of Android, which they call Android 5.0. Android new version releases were usually done during Google's I/O event, which for this year is scheduled June 25 – 26 in San Francisco. If not, Nexus 8 will likely debut between July to September, considering its production is reported to start in summer. Nexus 8 is said to house an Intel Bay Trail chip which is set for release in mid-2014.
