Nexus 6 to be launched in October or November, Google's potential iPhone 6 killer
Google's flagship smartphone, Nexus 6 is likely to arrive in October or November, a few weeks after iPhone 6 is released.
Google Executive Sundar Pichai also mentioned during the Mobile World Congress in February that the smartphone will not hit the market within the first half of the year.
Nexus 6 was also a no show during the last Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) trade show, but buzzes around the Internet are ceaseless.
It was mentioned in a Forbes article last March that Google has tapped LG Electronics to spearhead the development of this smartphone that will mimick the 5.5-inch QHD display of LG G3.
However, LG was quick to pin down speculations.
Director of Communications at LG, Ken Hong told Dutch news outlet DraadBreuk that Google hasn't approached them.
"Normally, we were informed. Either I got ignored, or we simply won't be making [the Nexus 6]," he said.
Head of Android Engineering and Nexus Program, David Burke set the records straight and denied plans of terminating the Nexus brand in favor of Android Silver.
"People just get excited by concepts and forget why we do things," Burke said in an interview. "We are still invested in Nexus."
"People have been commenting about Nexus because there is something else and they think that means the end of Nexus. That is the totally wrong conclusion to make," he added.
Nexus 6 is rumored to sport the following specifications: 5.2 to 5.5-inch full HD curved with sharp 1440 x 2560 resolution with 534 pixels per inch (ppi), 3GB RAM, 20MP primary camera with HDR mode and 5MP secondary camera, MediaTek 64-bit processor, fingerprint scanning technology that is quite similar to Apple's TouchID, and dust-proof and waterproof device.
Nexus 6 is also tipped to reach out to more consumers with a fairly lower price tag compared to Apple's iPhone 6.
Given the specs and reasonable price, there is a possibility that Google can give Apple a run for their money when it comes to smartphones.
