'Narcos' season 3 news, spoilers: Series adds four new cast members; Boyd Holbrook not returning?
Nobody expected Netflix's "Narcos" to be the smash hit that it is. And with season 2 over and Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) dead, fans are wondering what the next season will have in store for viewers.
The cast list of the already-confirmed third season is only getting bigger. Recently, four new actors have been added to the roster.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Stahl-David and Matt Whelan have signed on to the series in regular roles. Stahl-David will play an American DEA agent named Chris Feistl, who is assigned to duty in Colombia. Whelan, on the other hand, will play Daniel Van Ness, Feistl's more serious partner.
Over on the other side of the drug war, Deadline has reported that Arturo Castro and Kerry Bishé have been tapped to play David Rodriguez and Christina, respectively.
Castro's character is the oldest son of Miguel, one of the Cali Cartel's leaders. David will be initially hesitant to take part as a leader of the cartel, but he will be forced to run things when his father and uncle are arrested. On the other hand, Christina is an American woman with a Colombian for a husband. Her husband will get involved in the drug business, which will result in Christina seeking help from the US Embassy, in order to keep her family safe.
As for familiar faces, Pedro Pascal will be back to reprise his role as Javier Pena in the third season. It can be recalled that the season 2 finale set up much bigger things for Pena in the war against drugs. However, it remains uncertain whether Boyd Holbrook, who played DEA agent Steve Murphy in the first two seasons, will reprise his role once more. Neither Holbrook nor Netflix has confirmed anything.
Season 3 of "Narcos" will shift its focus on the Cali Cartel and the Colombian and American governments' efforts to shut them down. It will premiere in 2017.
