'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' chase scene inspired by 'Uncharted 3'
"Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" is inching its way into its release date and its director is becoming more and more generous with spoilers and updates — the latest of which involves that death-defying plane scene that fans should watch out for.
Recently, "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" director Christopher McQuarrie spilled some juicy beans about the much awaited fifth installment of the "Mission Impossible" series. He gave out the main plot line and some cast updates to keep fans excited and now, here is another tidbit that fans can fawn over: one chase scene in the upcoming movie is inspired by a popular video game scene.
In "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception," the main character, Drake, can be seen chasing a cargo plane and eventually struggling to make his way up as air pulls him out of the cargo bay. Though it is only a game, it is still a series-defining scene.
It was this success that inspired the director to emulate it. In a Twitter answer to a fan query as to how Tom Cruise's scene was conceived, McQuarrie answered, "Group effort/Uncharted. #McQandA"
Those who want to check out both scenes for comparison (and get super excited for the new "Mission Impossible" movie in the process), can take a look at the "Uncharted 3" car chase in CVG's YouTube and the "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" trailer from Movieclips.
"Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" stars its original protagonist, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise). He is joined by William Brandt (Jeremy Renner), Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), and Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson).
The movie is co-produced by Cruise, J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger. In this fifth iteration, Ethan Hunt is on the run as the CIA head, played by Alec Baldwin, perceives his previous acts as a crime.
"Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" hits the big screen this July 30, 2015. A preview of the action spy film was shown last week prior to the screening of "Terminator Genysis."
