Milwaukee Bucks trade rumors 2016: Michael Carter-Williams now the trading block?

The Milwaukee Bucks will have three point guards for the 2016-17 National Basketball Association (NBA) season if Giannis Antetokounmpo is truly going to take over the ball handling duties. Because of what seems to be a crowded situation at the no. 1 position, there is a possibility Michael Carter-Williams will be dealt.

Last season, Carter-Williams was the starting point guard for the Bucks until he was sidelined in March due to a hip injury.

Before the health setback, Carter-Williams struggled and it was seen through his numbers which dwindled. He averaged career-lows 11.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists, with 1.5 steals per contest.

Following Carter-Williams' injury, the Bucks announced that moving forward Antetokounmpo will be their main playmaker. However in the off-season, they signed Matthew Dellavedova who came off a successful championship run with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Because of these roster adjustments, Carter-Williams was seen as a trade piece for Milwaukee since it already has Antetokounmpo and Dellavedova at point guard. If the 24-year-old stays, he is expected to be a reserve, which is a first in his career and is something that may not sit well with him.

However in a recent interview, Carter-Williams sounded positive to the idea of him being a bench player.

"When I was in college, I was upset that I was sitting. Now I understand that you do what you have for the team. If it means me starting or coming off the bench, it's fine. The coach knows what's best. I just have to get ready," Carter-Williams told The Philippine Star

If Carter-Williams embraces his potential new role with the Bucks and performs great next season, there is no reason for him to be traded. But if he fails, the organization may opt to part ways with him in exchange for a piece that would help it become a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference.
