Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, specs rumors: an October release?
The fate of Microsoft's Surface Pro 5 is still largely unknown and it looks as though the previously probable October release may also be in jeopardy.
With Microsoft still reluctant to talk more about the rumored tablet, it's become increasingly more difficult to come up with a possible release date, but recent news from the company may be hinting at the future of the device.
Microsoft has already confirmed that the next major Windows 10 update, to be known as the Redstone 1, will likely be released sometime in June.
Unless Microsoft is planning to significantly shorten the product cycle of their Surface Pro line, a June debut for the new tablet along with the Redstone 1 may be tough to pull off, thus making it more reasonable to expect the rumored device to launch alongside the other major update, which is likely to be known as Redstone 2, and this is where things may get complicated.
Rumors from earlier this year had already suggested that Redstone 2 may not be released until next year, and according to sources spoken to by ZD Net's Mary Jo Foley, the delay may be due in part to Microsoft's desire to make the new update available alongside the launch of new Windows 10 devices.
While the Surface Pro 5 was not specifically named as a device that may have been affected by this rumored decision, that could still end up being the case.
People may not be too happy to hear about the new tablet potentially being delayed, but it could still end up being a good thing in the long run as it could provide Microsoft with more time to work on the device and ensure that it is as good as can be when it is finally released next year.
Additional updates about the fate of the Surface Pro 5 may be made available later this year.
