Microsoft Surface Phone release date, specs rumors: Smartphone to launch in February 2017?

(Microsoft)The Microsoft Surface Phone is rumored to be launched at the MWC in February 2017 in Spain.

The Microsoft Surface Phone has been plagued with rumors for a long time. And although Microsoft has yet to confirm the device's existence, reports claim that the handset will be unveiled at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February.

Microsoft has not been in the smartphone game for quite some time now, especially considering its Lumia series did not fare very well in the market. The company has yet to make any sort of announcement regarding the Surface Phone, but that has not stopped speculations from running rampant.

According to reports, Microsoft is apparently set to launch the Surface Phone, along with the Surface Pro 5, at the upcoming MWC 2017 in Barcelona, Spain. The event is set to take place in February, which means, if the rumors are true, tech enthusiasts only have a few more months of waiting before they can lay their eyes on the Redmond-based tech giant's new smartphone iteration.

It is believed that Microsoft is working with HP to produce the Surface Phone. And while it is set to sport a major overhaul from the past Lumia lineup, it has been said that the smartphone will still keep key features for the Surface Phone. These features include Glance and ClearBlack screens.

Under the hood, it is expected that the Surface Phone will be running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor, as well as a Windows 10 operating system. And as previously stated, an apparent leak points to new fingerprint sensor technology that may or may not be incorporated in the Surface Phone.

It has also been said that the device may come in three variants, albeit all of them are high-end phones. However, since nothing has been confirmed so far, it would be best for readers to take this news with a grain of salt for now.

More news and updates should arrive soon.
