Microsoft Surface Book 2 release date: Laptop may not be at October event after all

(Microsoft)Microsoft's Surface Book 2, the follow-up to the Surface Book (pictured), is rumored to be unveiled in October.

Fans got excited when rumors surrounding the release of Microsoft's Surface Book 2 started circulating. Initially believed to be launched in an October event, it is now thought that the upcoming hybrid laptop will not be at the event after all.

It was previously reported that speculations have been spreading that Microsoft is set to launch the Surface Book 2, along with the Surface Pro 5 and highly rumored Surface Phone, at an event scheduled to take place next month. However, this doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

According to reports, the pattern of release that Microsoft has adopted does not coincide with the launch rumors that have been laid out. Other release schedules were used for the Surface Pro 4 and the Lumia 950.

However, this does not mean that Microsoft will be without ammo when the October event rolls around. Reports say that the Redmond-based tech giant is going to launch an alternative to the Surface Book. It is said that this new offering will be unlike any other currently in the market.

As for the laptop's specifications, it is widely believed that the Surface Book 2 is going to arrive with the highly awaited operating system, the Windows 10 Redstone 2. Since the new system is expected to come with the laptop out of the box, Microsoft is taking measures in order to make sure that everything goes to plan. Intel's latest Kaby Lake processor is also expected to be under the hood. This will prove to be a much easier integration since Intel has already released the Kaby Lake.

Apart from that, there has been talk of a 4K display being adopted for its resolution. Another rumor that has been going around regarding its display is three-dimensional capabilities.

In other news, Microsoft's Surface Book, the predecessor to the unconfirmed Surface Book 2, has won the title of "Laptop of the Year" at the prestigious UK T3 Awards. According to MS Power User, the laptop was up against the likes of Apple, Acer Aspire, HP, Lenovo, and Dell. Considering its win, it comes as no surprise that many tech enthusiasts have been awaiting the follow-up.
