Miami Heat rumors: Wade signs contract; Heat try to pursue another star
For Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat, the wait is finally over.
The two parties have already made a decision and the three-time NBA champion recently revealed that he signed a one-year, $20 million contract to stay in South Beach.
Now, there were two scenarios playing in the deal, the first is Wade takes a one-year deal or second, he accepts a long-term deal with less money. It is now evident that Wade chose the first option.
Now with the one-year deal, it has given rise to the talk that maybe Wade did this to help his stock increase for a chance to move to a new team next season with an even better chance of making money.
While it is ideal for some, it was not for Wade. In a statement by his agent Henry Thomas, this decision was to help Wade get a new deal with the same team he has played for in his professional career.
Thomas said, "This contract is a win-win for both Dwyane and the Heat. Not only does Dwyane get to extend his Hall of Fame-worthy career with the only franchise for whom he has ever played, but he will have the flexibility next summer to sign an additional deal. And the HEAT gets to keep their franchise cornerstone while having the ability to build a championship-contending roster."
However, the Heat may not be done in trying to get big names in. Rumors have circulated that they are trying to get Portland Trail Blazers' LaMarcus Aldridge on board, despite not having the cap space to get the big man.
It is said that Pat Riley may try to talk to Portland to have them get a sign-and-trade deal that would involve players, Josh McRoberts, Luol Deng, Mario Chalmers and even young upstart, Hassan Whiteside.
Earlier, it was said that the deal could also involve Chris Bosh and Wade. However, the two names are unlikely to be dealt with by the Heat, who are trying to return to their playoff form.
