Miami Heat free agency, trade rumors 2016: Team not on Ray Allen's return list?

Veteran guard Ray Allen is aiming to return to the National Basketball Association (NBA) and unfortunately, it seems like he is not considering another run with the Miami Heat.

In a recent report by the Hartford Courant, Allen expressed the desire of again playing for the Milwaukee Bucks or Boston Celtics. Along with this, he revealed that Spike Lee is exchanging text messages with him as the director tries to be a recruiter for the New York Knicks.

It was a little surprising that the Heat were not mentioned by Allen. The 41-year-old's last two seasons in the league were spent in South Beach and he won his second championship with the organization.

During Allen's first year in Miami (2012-13 season), he was a spark off the bench. In 79 games, he averaged 10.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, with 1.7 assists per contest.

The Heat made it to the NBA Finals in that season and went on to defeat the San Antonio Spurs in seven games to capture the title. In that championship series, Allen hit a crucial three-point shot in Game 6 which transferred the momentum to Miami.

Allen's second year with the Heat was during the 2013-14 season, and at that time, he was still an efficient reserve despite a minor dip in his production. Playing in 73 games (nine starts), he averaged 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and two assists per outing.

Again, the Heat were in the NBA Finals in that season, but this time, the Spurs avenged their loss. San Antonio dispatched its foes in just five games to raise the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

Miami could still be a potential destination for Allen but it may not be capable of offering him a great deal.

Despite Allen's age, he is likely still worth more than the veteran's minimum, and it is uncertain if the Heat's salary cap can grant him that.
