Miami Heat free agency, trade rumors 2016: Josh McRoberts to stay?

Veteran forward Josh McRoberts no longer needs to worry about his stint with the Miami Heat as he is likely removed from the trade block and will stay for at least one more season.

Earlier in the off-season, the Heat were rumored to have tried dealing away McRoberts to free some cap space in their pursuit of big names in free agency and also to ink their players who were available on the market.

In the end, it was unsuccessful for the Heat, who also received a devastating blow. Indeed, they did make center Hassan Whiteside stay, but they lost franchise superstar Dwyane Wade who joined the Chicago Bulls.

Following these events, McRoberts remained available but the Heat had no takers for him. Perhaps it's because of this that they decided to keep the 29-year-old.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald wrote in his report, "Though he was mentioned in trade rumors previously, the Heat has indicated to Josh McRoberts' camp that he's in the team's plans for this season, his agent said, adding Miami called to go over his offseason training and make sure everyone is on the same page."

Because Miami did not sign Wade or land any of its targeted stars in free agency, it has the money to keep McRoberts and that is what the organization will do based on Jackson's report.

McRoberts was acquired by the Heat in 2014 because of his splendid performance when he was still playing for the then-Charlotte Bobcats. But since arriving in South Beach, he was troubled by injuries which limited him to only 59 regular season games in two seasons for the Heat.

Sadly in those appearances, McRoberts did not seize the opportunity to impress. But since the Heat are giving him another year, he should take this chance and show them his worth.
