'Marco Polo' season 3 release date: show renewed or canceled? Or just delayed?
Just like all other shows still waiting for its fate, "Marco Polo" season 3 is being rumored to either be canceled or delayed. With viewers waiting on word from the people in charge, different speculations on the show's fate are making the rounds.
One of its main cast member, actor Benedict Wong is the center of many speculations. Wong portrays Kublai Khan whose story arc is central to the show. Wong is also part of the upcoming Marvel movie "Doctor Strange" and it is speculated that juggling his commitments is causing delays in the production.
Other rumors also say that the actor will no longer be part of the show and that his character will only make a brief appearance to showcase his death. Still, there are also reports confirming his return for the possible season 3 together with actors Lorenzo Richelmy who plays the titular role Marco Polo and Tom Wu who portrays Hundred Eyes.
There are also reports claiming that "Marco Polo" season 3 will push through but will be aired on another network. Production cost for the series is said to be a problem also and Netflix is reportedly not satisfied with the ratings. Some also argue that while the first season did not do as well as expected, season 2 made up for it.
Show creator John Fusco wrote an article for Deadline in July expressing his gratitude to Netflix for the continued support for then recently aired season 2. Part of the article reads, "At a time when there's much contention and strain surrounding Hollywood for its lack of diversity, I'm proud to be on the side that's breaking barriers. I'm grateful to Ted Sarandos, Cindy Holland, and the entire team at Netflix for their courage and willingness to get behind this project, for sharing this view and recognizing the vast and authentic pool of ethnically-diverse talent."
With the performance and good critics received by season 2, viewers and fans of the show continue to hope and believe that "Marco Polo" deserves at least another season.
