MacBook Air 2016 release date, specs and features: Apple to announce updates in September?

(Apple)Inset is the 11-inch and 13-inch macBook Air 2015. Rumor has it that Apple has decided to discontinue the MacBook Air series.

Apple is known to unveil its newest products every September. With one more month to go, there are already rumors that the tech giant may no longer bring an update to its MacBook Air line.

According to reports, Apple's thinnest laptop line — the MacBook Air — will be canceled. Apparently the Air family had been getting unfavorable reviews for the past couple of years and it has not been performing well on sales either. The tech giant is rumored to give more attention to MacBook Pro 2016, which could be its best upgrade yet to date.

The last time MacBook Air got an update was early last year, which was not received well by the users because it only brought a few and almost unnoticeable added specs.

However, with Xiaomi's Mi Notebook Air's availability in the market, Apple may want to think twice before it pulls the plug on the Air roster. It may take advantage of the Mi Notebook Air's emergence in the market and bring something completely different for the MacBook Air that would regain consumer interest.

As for the upcoming MacBook Pro, according to reports, Apple's premium laptop will bring a completely new design for its 2016 upgrade. It may sport a slimmer and lighter build, maybe close to the weight of the MacBook Air. The new MacBook Pro is also rumored to debut four type-C USB ports without the Apple's signature MagSafe power connector. This means that power can be transported to the all-in-one USB port, including the headphone jack.

The MacBook Pro 2016 could also feature an updated Apple Pencil, which first debuted with the iPad Pro. As for the device's display, it may come with a 5K Thunderbolt resolution powered by an upgraded GPU. Because of this jaw-dropping rumored specs, the laptop may most likely run on powerful Intel Skylake processor, coupled with an 8 GB RAM and 1 TB storage.

Apple will most likely announce the latest MacBook Pro in September and it may also address the rumors surrounding the MacBook Air.
