Lumia 650 news: new device confirmed by Microsoft executive
There have been a number of rumors about the Lumia 650 from Microsoft, but the company refrained from confirming the existence of the smartphone. However, all that changed when an executive of the company mentioned the device in a podcast.
Speaking to ZDNet during a podcast, Chris Capossela, the CMO of Microsoft, made it clear that the device had no release date as of yet. Reporting about this particular statement from Capossela, Ubergizmo states that, while it confirms the existence of the device, it does not indicate when or whether it will be released.
The Lumia 650 first showed up in a leak in October with the codename "Saana" but it was quickly labeled as a fake. However, since then, rumors about the mid range device have refused to die down.
Earlier this month, there were several leaks about the Lumia 650 and at the time, the device was thought to be a mid range offering as Microsoft had already announced flagship devices in the form of the Lumia 950 and the 950 XL. Additionally, along with the leaks came renders of the device, which pointed towards it having a metal body. This left many puzzled as the Lumia 950 and the 950 XL only have polycarbonate materials on their bodies.
However, with the official confirmation of the Lumia 650's existence coming from Microsoft, it is likely that the device that was featured in leaks so far is real. All the leaks that have emerged about the device have only revealed information about the device's design. It is thought to have a 5-inch display with a resolution of 720p. As for RAM, it is likely to have 1 GB onboard and its chipset will be a Snapdragon 212 version.
Coming to a release date, the Lumia 650 could arrive during CES next year or even MWC in February, or Microsoft could hold off on its release until its BUILD conference, which is due to happen in March 2016.
