'Luke Cage' season 2 air date, spoilers: Showrunner teases evolution of hero in 2019 follow-up
Netflix recently released the first season of "Luke Cage," and for the fans who have already binge-watched the entire series, the question of a second season is already lingering in their minds. But will there even be a season 2? What story will it tell?
A second season is almost a sure thing for "Luke Cage." Marvel is continually expanding its universe in the cinematic world and that much is apparent with its recent Netflix releases. But according to Mic, a second season for the series may be more than a year away.
This is because Marvel has a lot on its plate. In addition to blockbuster films, it also has a number of other television series in the works. It has also been said that two Marvel series will drop each year. And with 2017 and 2018 already planned out, a second season for "Luke Cage" may arrive in 2019.
Fans need not worry, though, because the titular hero played by Mike Colter will still be making appearances left and right. There is the possibility of Luke Cage reuniting with Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones in the second season of her eponymous series. Also, he is set to star in "The Defenders," which is scheduled to come out next year.
When season 2 does hit the screen, it will tackle the evolution of a hero. "If we get a Season 2, it's going to explore more of how a hero evolves, when most heroes have a mask or are able to hide certain aspects of themselves, but Luke is out there," showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker told Collider in an interview.
The first season of "Luke Cage" was released on Sept. 30 and is available on Netflix. The series has been met with positive reviews, currently holding a score of 79 percent based on 28 critics on Metacritic, indicating generally favorable reviews.
