'Longmire' season 5 news: another season still not a dead cert; fans organizing 'Longmire' event to call for renewal
There was a time that, when a network cancelled a show, that was the end of it. But now, social media has proven time and again that with enough fans and a strong online presence, a show can be brought back from the brink. That happened to "Longmire" once and now, fans are hoping that it can happen again.
"Longmire" wrapped its fourth season on Netflix last Sept. 10 but fans are already demanding that the streaming service pick up the Western crime drama for a fifth season. And they are reportedly doing everything they can to ensure that.
Some might be wondering why fans are already hungry for news about a fifth season, considering the show just wrapped up. But "Longmire" has had a brush with cancellation before and fans no doubt want to prevent that from happening again.
The series, which revolves around Sheriff Walt Longmire, initially aired on the A&E network. It had a good following so fans were shocked when it was cancelled after its third season. At the time, the network said that while the show garnered positive reviews and good ratings, it did not fit its target demographic.
"Longmire" fans didn't take the news sitting down and before long, their petitions and posts on social media convinced Warner Bros. to offer the show to various networks until a fourth season was picked up by Netflix.
Netflix has not made any announcement yet on the show's fate. However, "Longmire" actress Ally Walker believes the series will return for a fifth season. The "Profiler" star talked to Parade recently and mentioned that she believes that she will be returning to reprise her role as Dr. Donna Sue Monahan.
While Walker's statements give fans hope, the "Longmire Posse," as fans call themselves, are being proactive about it and have organized an event set for Oct. 7.
Details of the event have been posted on the show's Facebook page and fans are being encouraged to join the Stampede on Wednesday. According to the post, every "share on Facebook of a Longmire Posse post, will go directly to Netflix & Longmire pages, as they will be tagged in every post!"
Fans are also reminded that if they will be retweeting something "Longmire"-related, to make sure that the whole content is retweeted along with the hashtag and the @netflix tag.
The posse's Facebook page has around 50,000 followers and with those numbers, their tweets and posts will surely be noticed by Netflix and hopefully, the network will soon announce what they want to hear.
