"Law & Order: SVU" has been renewed for a seventeenth season, which means fans then world-over can look forward to another action-packed season of the hit NBC crime drama. Before that, a sensation finale awaits, as Johnny D's trial takes center stage and Benson's plans to adopt Noah takes a turn for the worse.

In episode 23 named "Surrendering Noah", Sergeant Benson and ADA Barba take Johnny D's case to trial and charge him with sex trafficking, rape, assault and kidnapping, reports SpoilersGuide. However, unexpectedly, baby Noah's adoption becomes entangled in the case, and Benson starts to fear for Noah's future and safety. An intense courtroom drama ensues, as a showdown leads to the Special Victims Unit facing a threat that could change the team forever.

It definitely seems like a fascinating episode and after what Benson and Noah have been through this season, viewers are eager to see if they will finally get a happy ending. Showrunner Warren Leight further clarifies to TVGuide that Johnny will thwart Benson's adoption plans to a significant extent by having some leverage over her. "He has some leverage now over Benson... (and) if this guy gets off, what does that mean for her and Noah?"

But Johnny's trial and Noah's adoption won't be the only problem on the team's mind. Leight reveals that Benson will have to hire a reliable and competent number two after she gets formally promoted to lieutenant. This will cause some obvious tension, drama and a shake-up in the squad room. Who will it be? "Finn has seniority, Amaro could use a good break, Rollins would be very good at it, but would Olivia ever trust her? And Carisi goes to law school", said Leight, explaining Benson's dilemma.

Meanwhile, lead actress Mariska Hargitay teased an emotional finale in her tweet. The episode also promises to wrap things up nicely, leaving little room for cliff-hangers. "Law & Order" ties its loose ends on Wednesday, May 20 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
