'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date, news: New screenshots revealed

(Facebook/KingdomHearts)"Kingdom Hearts 3" has yet to receive a release date.

Many fans have been eagerly anticipating the release of "Kingdom Hearts 3." It's been a long time coming, and new screenshots have been revealed, which only prove to excite fans more.

According to GamesRadar, the two new in-game screenshots are quite ordinary at first glance. But it seems that there is more to the images than meets the eye. The publication notes that the background gives away the location: Mt. Olympus. That's right — it's where the gods reside.

The second of the two images was edited, in order to not give away spoilers on a world that has yet to be released. The power form that Sora is utilizing offers up hints as to what that world is, which is why the screenshot had to undergo some edits.

Additionally, the images reveal that Drive Forms will be making a comeback. For those who are unaware, Drive Forms are special powers that unlock new outfits and intensify abilities for Sora.

As for the game's release date, it was previously reported a specific one has yet to be announced by Square Enix. Game creator Tetsuya Nomura has said that there will be news coming soon and that fans only need to be patient. Nomura added that they are "waiting to speak more about 'Kingdom Hearts III' after releasing 'Kingdom Hearts 2.8,' so we have currently released all available information. Please wait shortly for new news."

Square Enix is currently pouring all of its attention on "Kingdom Hearts 2.8" and its marketing, so it is understandable that they are holding off on announcing the release date of "Kingdom Hearts 3." And since "Kingdom Hearts 2.8" will be hitting the market on Jan. 24, 2017, it seems like fans don't have to wait too long before more news concerning "Kingdom Hearts 3" come to light. 2017 will be a big year for the "Kingdom Hearts" franchise because it will be celebrating its 15th anniversary.
