'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date: Playing previous 'Kingdom Hearts' games will help fans understand whole story

(Facebook/KingdomHearts)Fans will enjoy "Kingdom Hearts 3" more if they've played all previous games in the franchise.

The anticipation for the game "Kingdom Hearts 3" has not died down, despite the lack of updates in its development. However, co-director Tai Yasue recently spoke about the upcoming game and revealed that fans will best enjoy it if they've played all previous installments.

It is no secret that "Kingdom Hearts" is a franchise that has amassed a loyal fan following. So, many were disappointed when Square Enix failed to show anything related to the game at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June, especially since it was announced way back in 2013. And it was previously reported that Yasue explained the decision behind not showcasing the game at the E3.

Yasue pointed out that they had another game, "Kingdom Hearts 2.8," coming out in December. And even though they want to tell the world about "Kingdom Hearts 3" very badly, they have to consider their priorities. Square Enix is pouring all of its focus on "2.8" for now before delving into more "Kingdome Hearts 3"-related promotions.

As for the story, Yasue told GamesBeat that fans will be able to appreciate it more if they have played previous "Kingdom Hearts" games. Of course, not having played them will not necessarily isolate the player, but it will help them understand the overall arc. Each "Kingdom Hearts" game still has its own beginning, middle, and end, but fans will grasp the bigger picture if they've played all previous iterations.

"'Kingdom Hearts 3' is very much — it's a game that will be better if you understand all the other stories," Yasue said. "All the Kingdom Hearts stories have a conclusion at the end of each Disney world. You can still enjoy that as well. For the whole arc, it might help to understand, but there's still a lot of fun in each Disney world."

Disney and Pixar fans can look forward to the upcoming game as it will incorporate characters and elements from the "Toy Story" franchise and "Big Hero 6."

Square Enix has yet to give "Kingdom Hearts 3" an official release date.
