iPhone 6s is not waterproof but could survive getting wet in the rain
Consumers are finally getting their hands on the new iPhone 6s and many have been checking if the device is waterproof or not by placing it underwater. These homebrewed tests have thrown up interesting results and showed that Apple's latest smartphone might be able to survive being underwater for 30 minutes.
Dunking a phone in water, even when the manufacturer states that it is not waterproof, has been done over the years and last year's iPhone 6 was proven to be unable to survive when placed in just a few inches of water for a minute. However, this time, MacRumors rounded up the various tests conducted on the iPhone 6s and said that one test, which pitted the iPhone 6s against the Samsung Galaxy S6, resulted in both phones being able to function properly after being submerged in water for 30 minutes. In this particular test, however, the amount of water used was only a few inches.
Other tests have also compared the iPhone 6s to its larger sibling, the iPhone 6s Plus, and when submerged in a few inches of water, the two devices remained unaffected and were able to return to their normal working condition. However, when the iPhone 6s Plus was dropped into a swimming pool, submerged under several feet of water, it gradually shut down and failed to restart. CNET states that while the validity of these tests cannot be proven, it appears that the iPhone 6s will be able to survive getting wet in the rain.
However, Apple has not provided an IP certification for the device and it is quite clear that these tests, which were done to check the waterproofing of the iPhone 6s are not advisable. In fact, some devices might be able to fare better than others in the same lineup. One iPhone 6s, after being placed under a few inches of water, saw an aberration in the form of a line appearing on the top of the screen.
For those useres who are really looking for waterproof protection for their iPhone 6s, the only solution is to invest in a waterproof case.
