'iPad Mini 5' release date, news & update: Device reportedly set to roll out between April and August 2017

Apple has had two big events in the span of two months. But despite the introduction of the iPhone 7 and the revamped Mac line, members of the tech community still found something to gripe about, like the lack of news regarding the iPad Mini 5.

Apple using one event to introduce its latest smartphone was expected, especially since this is one of the company's biggest moneymakers. But the omission of the iPad from the company's recent "Hello Again" event raised a few eyebrows and understandably led to numerous rumors surfacing.

There have been talks that the company is reportedly retiring the iPad Mini line and will instead move it under the iPad Pro line and market it under a different name. Some have even reported that instead of calling the device the iPad Mini 5, the 7.9-inch tablet will be christened the iPad Pro Mini instead.

It goes without saying that Apple keeping mum about the iPad Mini 5 means that there's no concrete information yet on what specs the device would have. However, there's no lack of speculation on what consumers believe the iPad Mini 5 should have.

It has been said that the iPad Mini 5 would be thinner and will be utilizing the same 7000 series aluminum body that was used for the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus. Aside from the slimmer design, the device's graphics and resolution will apparently be getting a boost —  thanks to the A9 processor.

The inclusion of a Smart Connector and a rumored 3D Touch pressure-sensitive screen technology will reportedly make the iPad Mini 5 more attractive to the business sector. The device is also said to be waterproof and dust-resistant and will come in 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB models. Consumers shouldn't be surprised if the iPad Mini 5 would also come sans headphone ports.

It goes without saying that the iPad Mini 5 is just speculation at this point. But if it does materialize, the device might arrive sometime between April and August 2017.
