'Injustice 2' updates: Firestorm, Cheetah announced as playable characters

(Facebook/Injustice)Firestorm is confirmed to be a playable character in "Injustice 2."

As the release date of "Injustice 2" draws near, NetherRealm Studios reveals more and more DC superhero characters that will be a part of the game sequel, and the latest of which is Firestorm, who, although may not be enjoying the same amount of popularity as compared to the other characters featured in the game, exhibits an immense amount of power as seen in the video teaser for the said character.

The recently released teaser that introduces Firestorm in "Injustice 2" shows the DC superhero wrecking every challenger that comes his way. In the said teaser, it can be seen that Firestorm easily defeats Green Arrow, Catwoman, and even Green Lantern with his flaming punch and kicks and with the fireballs coming out of his hands. It is also suspected that the character becomes stronger when the color of his flames shifts from red to blue as it seems to be the case in the trailer.

To the uninitiated, Firestorm is a DC superhero who is a fusion of two of his alter egos —  Ronnie Raymond and Jason Rusch. While two of his alter egos have opposing personalities, they were caught in an explosion one day that led to their fusion into one single character — thanks to the phenomenon called the Firestorm Matrix.

"Ronnie and Jason act together as a single super hero, with Ronnie usually in control of Firestorm's body, while the more cerebral Jason lends support as a secondary consciousness within the Matrix. Ronnie and Jason have learned to separate at will, returning to their normal forms and capabilities. But when they're bonded and utilizing the power of the Matrix, Firestorm can fly, absorb radiation, and fire highly destructive blasts of energy from his hands," goes a portion of the character description of Firestorm on the official site of DC Comics.

Firestorm is also featured in The CW series "Legends of Tomorrow," where he is portrayed by actor Franz Drameh.

Apart from Firestorm, NetherRealm has just announced that Wonder Woman's nemesis, Cheetah, will be a playable character in "Injustice 2" as well. As of this writing, the game, which is coming out for PS4 and the Xbox One on May 16, has a total of 25 playable characters.
