'Hunter X Hunter' release date, updates: Fans divided on possible replacement of Yoshihiro Togashi
Following Yoshihiro Togashi's hiatus as a result of his back issues, rumors have started circulating that the "Hunter X Hunter" creator may be replaced. However, it seems that fans have differing opinions on whether a change should be made.
It can be recalled that Togashi restarted the manga in April earlier this year after taking a similar break, but subsequently went into hiatus once again due to health problems. Fans have expressed concern over Togashi's well-being, but are equally worried about the manga's future. So far, no return date has been announced for the popular Japanese manga series.
News then broke that Togashi may be replaced altogether by the publisher, Shueisha. It seems that the manga publisher is seeking to gain the rights to "Hunter X Hunter" in order to push through with its development without any limitations. After all, there is a huge market for the series both within and outside of Japan.
As previously reported, two people are, apparently, up for the position should Togashi be relieved of his job. The first is "Tokyo Ghoul" creator Sui Ishida. However, it has been said that Ishida may not have time in his schedule to accommodate another manga into his slate. The second option is none other than Naoko Takeuchi, Togashi's wife and the creator of "Sailor Moon."
While replacing Togashi may be a good idea at first, fans are worried that having someone else at the helm would change the overall appeal of "Hunter X Hunter." It could also see a turn in direction, as well as tone. Ishida's "Tokyo Ghoul," for instance, is known for having a darker vibe. This may translate into "Hunter X Hunter" should Ishida take over.
On the other hand, there are those who welcome the potential change with open arms, arguing that a fresh take on "Hunter X Hunter" could do well for the manga.
Since nothing has been officially confirmed, though, readers should take this news with a grain of salt.
