Houston Rockets trade rumors 2016: Rudy Gay an easy trade acquisition?

Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay has been on the trading block these past few weeks, and despite him reportedly favoring a move to the Miami Heat, he might stay in the Western Conference but this time playing for the Houston Rockets.

(Reuters/Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports)The Houston Rockets are reportedly interested in Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay.

In a report by Basketball Insiders, the Rockets' interest in Gay was mentioned and his potential transfer to Houston was discussed.

Because Gay's current contract only has a year left in it, it could be a bad idea for the Rockets to trade for him since he may just walk away after the season.

But it was stated that the Kings are "not looking for a ton in return for Gay." This makes it easier for a trade deal to be accomplished since it looks like Houston will just have to give up a few pieces if it really aims to acquire the veteran forward.

Gay would be a great addition to the Rockets if they push through with trading for him. He can be the second option on offense, especially now that former All-Star center Dwight Howard is no longer with the team.

There is no doubt that Harden is still going to be the top scorer for Houston. But Gay's potential arrival is not just to have someone help him on the offensive end. It is also a step towards the accomplishment of the franchise's goal to surround "The Beard" with talent.

So far, the Rockets are not making a move that involves Gay but it may happen before training camp. If one materializes, the former University of Connecticut Husky joins the likes of Eric Gordon, Ryan Anderson and Pablo Prigioni as Houston's off-season acquisitions.

The Rockets revamped their roster following a lackluster campaign in the previous season that saw them exit in the first round after losing to the Golden State Warriors.
